Prime Video
God of War series is still in pre-production, but already greenlit for second season
The platform is greenlighting two seasons of God of War, demonstrating its strong commitment to the franchise.

The long-awaited live-action God of War series for Prime Video is still in the early stages of development, and for now, the first season is too far away to appear on the streaming service. And while the series doesn’t have a premiere date or lead actors yet, Amazon is confident enough in the project to commit to a second season before filming has even begun on the first.
The information comes directly from Ronald D. Moore, the show’s showrunner, who revealed the information during an interview on The Sackhoff Show podcast hosted by Katee Sackhoff, known for playing Captain Kara “Starbuck” Thrace on the sci-fi series Battlestar Galactica, for which Moore served as executive producer. During the show, the topic of the God of War movie came up, and Moore commented:
“Right now I’m working on an adaptation of this video game called God of War - it’s a big title in the gaming world - that Amazon has ordered two seasons of and they asked me to come in,” Moore said. “I’m literally in the writers room and working on that. That’s my new thing.”
Moore joined the creative team last year after the departure of the original team behind the project. While the series does not yet have a confirmed cast or premiere date, Amazon’s confidence suggests they are committed to making it one of their biggest hits.
The gods are in good hands
For those worried about the adaptation deviating heavily from the source material, it might be of some comfort to know that Cory Barlog, head of Santa Monica Studios and director of God of War (2018), will be working as executive producer alongside PlayStation Productions’ Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan, Santa Monica Studios’ own Yumi Yang, Jeff Ketcham, and Roy Lee as well as Sony’s Hermen Hulst and Vertigo’s Roy Lee.
And while God of War continues on its way to production, Prime Video is keeping a steady pace with the second season of the acclaimed Fallout adaptation.
