‘Godzilla: Minus One’ team celebrates their historic nomination to the Oscars

The team behind the amazing ‘Godzilla: Minus One’ celebrated big after finding out they got an Oscar nomination for Visual Effects, a first for Japanese cinema

Update:
Godzilla Minus One

We already know all the nominees of the 96th edition of the Academy Awards, and ‘Godzilla: Minus One’ is a film that simply had to be part of the list. The newest release of the kaiju’s franchise has stood out enormously and is being considered the best work ever made in the series, and something that can serve to confirm this opinion is the fact that it was the first Godzilla film ever to receive an Oscar nomination.

‘Godzilla: Minus One’ is nominated in the Best Visual Effects category along with ‘The Creator’, ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3′, ‘Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning - Part 1′ and ‘Napoleon’, so the competition is enormous, but with a budget of 10-15 million of dollars, minuscule compared to its competitors, it managed to sneak among the nominees, which is already an enormous success. A historic feat for Japanese cinema, a meeting of kaiju cinema with the most important awards in the history of cinema, and a gigantic joy on the part of the team in charge of the film.

The latest from the legendary Toho monster is a huge success

An unprecedented success at an international level, with a notable impact in the United States and Japan, managing to raise an economic amount well above its budget. A complete success that confirms the possibilities that Godzilla continues to have, in a much slower, calmer and more reflective work than the latest releases, like Legendary’s Monsterverse, and who will now be at the Oscars and dreams of continuing to make history.

In the Meristation review, it was highlighted that ‘Godzilla Minus One’ is “a film with soul, and that makes us desire much more Kaiju cinema, with eventual works that look more at the action, but with many of them that manage to have the level of ' ‘Godzilla Minus One’. “One of the greatest films of 2023, and possibly the best work about the legendary Japanese monster ever made.”
