‘Godzilla Minus Zero’ reveals first trailer at CinemaCon, confirming sequel set after Minus One
The follow-up to ‘Godzilla Minus One’ builds on the franchise’s most successful modern entry.

Godzilla’s return is in the air. During GKIDS’ presentation at CinemaCon on Tuesday, new details were revealed about the upcoming ‘Godzilla Minus Zero,’ and director Takashi Yamazaki unveiled its first trailer.
The first trailer reveals the most important details about the film, featuring Ryunosuke Kamiki reprising his role as Koichi Shikishima and Minami Hamabe as Noriko Oishi. However, the most striking aspect of the trailer is a shot showing the Statue of Liberty, with Godzilla approaching it from behind. Among the details that have been released is a synopsis of the plot, which states that “Godzilla Minus Zero picks up in 1949, two years after the tumultuous events of Godzilla Minus One, and continues the story of the Shikishima family as they face an all-new calamity.”
The Success Behind Godzilla Minus One
Godzilla Minus One became a box office hit, grossing $50 million in Japan and becoming the highest-grossing film in the franchise’s history. In the United States, it grossed $56 million, becoming the highest-grossing Japanese live-action film. Its most impressive achievement was at the 96th Academy Awards, where it won the award for Best Visual Effects, becoming the first Godzilla film in its then 69-year history to be nominated for these awards.
‘Godzilla Minus Zero’ will hit Japanese theaters on November 3, while audiences in the United States and Canada won’t have to wait as long—it arrives on November 6.
