Dragon Ball
Goodbye to Goku: Toyotaro, Dragon Ball Super cartoonist, is busy creating a new original manga.
Akira Toriyama’s successor focuses on his first solo project—far from the World of Dragon Ball

The Dragon Ball franchise remains on an indefinite hiatus, and much to the dismay of fans, its return seems far off. With Dragon Ball Daima concluded and the Super manga’s superhero arc wrapped up, the saga currently has no new content—neither in anime nor manga form. And as if that weren’t enough, fans now have another reason to worry: Toyotaro, the manga artist behind Dragon Ball Super, is pouring his efforts into a brand-new project that has nothing to do with Goku.
According to the official website for Japan Expo Paris, Toyotaro will attend the event as a special guest to unveil his first original manga—a work that completely departs from the Dragon Ball universe. He’ll be joined by none other than Kazuhiko Torishima, the legendary editor of Akira Toriyama, and together they will share the first details of this new story. This marks a major milestone for Toyotaro, as it will be the first time he publishes a work as a solo author.

Will there be Dragon Ball Super news at Japan Expo?
Unsurprisingly, this announcement has landed like a bucket of cold water for many Dragon Ball fans, as it suggests that Dragon Ball Super is no longer Toyotaro’s top priority. He had previously confirmed that he was working on the next arc—likely featuring Black Frieza as the main villain—but for now, it seems his focus is fully on his new project.
Japan Expo Paris will be held from July 3 to July 6, where Toyotaro is expected to reveal what his first original manga is all about. As for Dragon Ball, it’s still possible that Toyotaro may provide an update on the status of Super during his panel with Torishima—so fans should keep an eye on the event.
What’s clear for now is that Goku’s return won’t be happening anytime soon.
