Goodbye to Samsung’s SATA SSDs: the company’s decision has been leaked, which will drive up the rest of the PC market prices
Samsung’s discontinuation of these SSDs will have a major impact on the market.

The outlook for the PC gaming market in 2026 is bleak. If the RAM craze has driven prices to unprecedented levels, now it’s SSDs’ turn. Tom, creator of the YouTube channel ‘Moore’s Law Is Dead’ and a well-known insider in the hardware world, has leaked that Samsung has decided to halt production of SATA SSD storage drives ahead of the 2026 season and the conclusion of current contracts. What’s in stock is what’s left.
Blow to the budget SSD market
Tom claims that this information comes from “several sources across distribution and retail,” who confirm the South Korean giant’s unexpected move. The reason? Samsung is focusing on manufacturing premium products aimed at both customers looking for top-of-the-line products and those investing in artificial intelligence.
For Samsung, it makes little sense to continue producing these budget SSD models. If you want a storage drive, they want to force you to choose one of their NVMe or M.2 products from their current lineup, which are more expensive than the ones mentioned above.
The problem is that SATA SSDs have a significant market share. Tom explains in the video that 20% of the best-selling SSDs of the year still use this interface. Samsung is the company that ranks highest in terms of related products.
The announcement is being kept out of the public eye until next January. From then on, the market response is uncertain, but what can be predicted is that it will be a significant blow. With fewer manufacturers producing them, prices will rise after eliminating a major competitor from the equation and reducing the number of models available. Therefore, there will no longer be any “cheap hard drives.”
