Google Chrome launches its new protection shield, but the most important step is up to us

The new feature is powered by artificial intelligence and is available now.

Nowadays, we live in a continuous way with cyber threats, increasingly sophisticated and frequent. Web browsing security has become a priority and Google, aware of this, has developed a new feature for Chrome that promises to improve users' protection against possible attacks. However, this new tool is not free of questions, especially with regard to privacy.

The world’s most widely used browser, Google Chrome (almost 80% of the market share uses this browser), has launched its new Advanced Protection feature. This is an artificial intelligence-driven security system that seeks to improve defense against online threats. It is already available but its activation is not automatic, it depends on each user.

A new barrier against threats

Google began testing this functionality at the end of last year, with the aim of strengthening the security of its users against malicious websites, dangerous downloads and suspicious extensions. Advanced Protection is based on artificial intelligence algorithms to analyze in real time the potential risks to which we are subjected while surfing the Internet.

How to activate Advanced Protection

Since it is not activated automatically, if you want to implement it on your device you will need to follow the instructions below. Access Chrome’s settings and go to the “Privacy and Security” section. Within this tab, in the “Security” section, you will find the “Advanced Protection” option and you will be able to enable it.

Google has widely promoted the advantages of this functionality, ensuring that it can provide a safer browsing experience on a daily basis. However, the use of artificial intelligence to detect threats implies that the browser must transmit information to Google’s servers, a factor that could cause concern among those who prioritize online privacy. Undoubtedly, the positive point is that the final decision depends on each user, on the balance that each one wants to establish between security and privacy.
