“GTA 6 at 30 FPS” on PS5 and Xbox Series provokes Rockstar’s reaction: “He said things he shouldn’t have”
Mike York, a former developer at the company, spoke more than necessary in an interview that has since been taken down.

GTA 6 is one of the most anticipated video games of 2025; and of the decade. So much so that while we wait for a second trailer that never seems to arrive, any news or statement about the new Rockstar Games video game automatically becomes the center of attention of millions of fans around the world. This is the case of the latest controversy surrounding Grand Theft Auto 6, through which Rockstar itself has requested the withdrawal of an interview with a former developer, Mike York, which hinted at the possibility that the title will not go beyond 30 FPS on PS5 and Xbox Series.
Grand Theft Auto VI and doubts about its performance
Thus, Mike York, a former developer of the company who worked as an animator on GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2, went to an interview with content creator Kiwi Talkz to talk about Rockstar, its video games and GTA 6 itself. In it, York said that GTA 6 will run at 30 FPS locked on both PS5 and Xbox series, something that sparked controversy among users. In addition, the former Rockstar employee ruled out the possibility of a performance mode on consoles, machines that, according to him, will suffer more than expected to run the ambitious new open world of the GTA franchise.
After the uproar it caused, the interview disappeared from the Kiwi Talkz channel for no apparent reason, until the content creator himself clarified what really happened via his social media accounts. “Mike wanted it taken down for NDA reasons, he’s not being sued and no lawyers are after him. Case closed,” the interviewer said.
“Unfortunately at the request of Mike, I have had to take down my latest interview, apologies everyone,” the interviewer added, assuring that he has a new and “awesome” podcast planned for next week. Without adding more details to the matter, it seems that Rockstar Games wants to have total control over the communication of its next video game, and this includes the removal of certain content that may play against them or that may not be in line with reality.

York himself dropped several bombshells about the performance of GTA 6, both on current generation consoles and on PCs with the most advanced configurations. So much so that, besides ensuring that GTA 6 on PS5 and Xbox series would not exceed 30 FPS -even on the latest PS5 Pro-, he added that a hypothetical PC version would suffer to stay at 40 or 50 FPS, even in configurations based on the latest graphics technology from Nvidia, with the new RTX 50 in the spotlight.
Be that as it may, Rockstar Games remains completely silent about GTA 6 and any news beyond the first trailer that broke all records more than a year ago. The latest rumors point to a second trailer sometime in the first weeks of 2025, as well as the possibility that the base game will set a new price of $100.
