Will GTA 6 increase the price of video games? There is “hope” in the industry
One analyst believes that if this happens, the rest of the companies will try to join in.

The year 2025 is the year of Grand Theft Auto 6. If it is not delayed, Rockstar Games will release the most anticipated game of the decade, a title that aims to boost an industry in low hours. For some time now, there has been speculation that GTA 6 will inaugurate the price hike in games. Will it be the first to cost $100? Take-Two Interactive has not revealed its plans at this time, but according to analyst Matthew Ball of Epyllion, the industry has pinned its hopes on this happening. If it does, it could serve as a springboard for other companies to replicate it and set a new pricing standard.
In recent years, the cost of developing triple-A games has skyrocketed. Times are getting longer and titles are getting more challenging. Since the end of the Covid-19 crisis, major companies in the industry have made cuts to their respective workforces, leading to widespread instability among developers. In fact, Take-Two itself was one of the companies that laid people off.
The price of games has already gone up this generation.
Take-Two Interactive’s history with pricing is very recent. It was one of the first to raise the price of its new releases from $69.99 to $79.99 at the turn of the generation, something that has now become standard. One wonders if a $20 increase will work for the rest of the developers, because not all of them are Rockstar Games and not everyone is willing to pay $100 for a new release.
GTA 6 will be released in 2025 for the Xbox X series, Xbox S series and PS5. The PC version is not confirmed, but Rockstar Games usually takes a year to port their products to PC.
