Guillermo del Toro’s ‘Frankenstein’ Netflix movie to have Oscar Isaac and Andrew Garfield as leads
Guillermo del Toro has shared some more information about its upcoming Netflix project, a ‘Frankenstein’ adaptation that will have Oscar Isaac and Andrew Garfield as the main stars.
For a long time, fans of Guillermo del Toro have been wondering what his next project would be like. Known to be a Frankenstein adaptation, information about the project has been trickling out of the source little by little. Now, it’s been revealed when the movie starts filming, as well as who will be part of the star-studded cast.
According to What’s on Netflix, one of them will be Oscar Isaac, known for his role as Poe Dameron in the recent ‘Star Wars’ trilogy, but also for his roles in other films such as ‘Dune: Part 1′, ‘Ex Machina’ and the ‘Moon Knight’ series on Disney+, as well as being the rumored choice to be Solid Snake in the Metal Gear movie, currently in production limbo. Isaac will play the monster created by Victor Frankenstein.
Andrew Garfield has been confirmed to be playing the scientist who gives birth to new life to the amalgamation of corpses. We all know Garfield for being the second Spider-Man of the silver screen in ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ its sequel. He was also one of the stars in ‘Silence’, by Scorsese, and of the fantastic ' The social network’. He will be accompanied by Mia Goth, known for ‘A Cure for Wellness’, ‘Suspiria’, and ‘X’, as she has been chosen for the role of “The Bride.”
Christopher Waltz (‘Inglourious Basterds’) is also part of the cast in a role yet to be confirmed, with the only information being that it’ll be a “European male role”. As the movie is said to take close inspiration from the 1818 novel by Mary Shelley, it could be that Waltz will play the often forgotten Dr. Pretorious, who tracks down Frankenstein’s creation in order to continue his experiments.
Frankenstein’s Monster shall rise again
Earlier in the October, Del Toro revealed to Collider the project during an interview for the 10th Anniversary of Pacific Rim. “I’m doing Frankenstein. We’re working on it, we start shooting on it in February. It’s a movie I’ve been wanting to do for 50 years since I saw the first Frankenstein and I had an epiphany and is basically a movie that requires a lot of growht and a lot of tools that I couldn’t have done 10 years ago, 20 years ago and now I’m brave or crazy enough or something and we’re going to tackle it.”
The project is set to film in Ontario, Canada and London, England, with its schedule claiming July 5th, 2024 as the final day of filming. As such, we don’t believe the movie will release until at least 2025.
