Halo: Campaign Evolved Reveals release date and new gameplay at Xbox Games Showcase 2026
The classic shooter returns rebuilt from the ground up, featuring new story content and technical upgrades

It’s been eight months since the announcement: the first Halo game—one of the most influential shooters that defined the early 21st century—would be getting a remake, Halo: Campaign Evolved. Master Chief would be back to save humanity once again. And the game made an appearance at the Xbox Games Showcase with a new look, as well as a release date: July 28, 2026.
Master Chief also drops into PlayStation
Although things have changed internally at Xbox, and the company has shifted its focus to keeping its exclusives on the console, the agreements from the past have not been scrapped. As a result, Master Chief will arrive not only on Xbox Series X|S and PC, but will also join Gears of War, Forza Horizon, Sea of Thieves, and others on the PlayStation 5. The goal of bringing this IP to Sony’s console is to expand the number of people who can experience this franchise, and what better way than with an enhanced version of the first game.

In addition to technical tweaks, including a complete rebuild of weapons and environments with greater fidelity and dynamic lighting from Unreal Engine 5 (Lumen), the game comes loaded with content. The gameplay is enriched with the addition of dozens of Skulls, modifiers that make the campaign more challenging and replayable. But the most interesting new feature for veterans is the three completely new extra missions that have been included. These missions are intended as a prequel that complements the original story, providing new interactions between characters.
