Many veteran filmmakers, whether directors or actors, dislike superhero movies. There has been a lot of criticism of such films from the old guard in recent years, with Martin Scorsese being one of the most vocal and harshest, but not everyone feels the same way. Harrison Ford, who plays Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross/Red Hulk in ‘Captain America: Brave New World’, believes that turning down a role in the MCU is just “silly”.

Harrison Ford, renew or die

That’s what Ford thinks about the new cinema, which is constantly changing, and he believes that it’s the duty of actors and other personalities of the medium to adapt.

“I mean, this is the Marvel universe and I’m just there on a weekend pass,” the veteran actor says. “I’m a sailor new to this town. I understand the appeal of other kinds of films besides the kind we made in the ‘80s and ‘90s. I don’t have anything general to say about it. It’s the condition our condition is in, and things change and morph and go on. We’re silly if we sit around regretting the change and don’t participate. I’m participating in a new part of the business that, for me at least, I think is really producing some good experiences for an audience. I enjoy that.”

Ford also weighs in on the words of Quentin Tarantino, who said a few months ago that superhero movies are killing movie stars. “I don’t think the question is whether or not there are any movie stars. There’s wonderful actors coming up every day,” he begins. “Whether or not they become movie stars is really not the point. If movies need stars, they will find them. I’ve never fucking understood being a movie star. I’m an actor. I tell stories. I’m part of a group of people who work together, collaborate on telling stories. I’m an assistant storyteller. That’s what I am,” he says with surprising humility for someone who has played Han Solo, Indiana Jones, Agent Jack Ryan, and even the President of the United States in Air Force One.

Captain America: Brave New World’ hits theaters on February 14, and in addition to Ford, the cast includes Anthony Mackie, Danny Ramirez, Giancarlo Esposito and Tim Blake Nelson.
