The Game Awards

Harrison Ford refuses to follow the script and makes an unfortunate mistake during his moment at the TGAs

Harrison Ford turned Melina Juergens from Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II into “Melinda” Juergens and made a hilarious gaffe reminiscent of one of the most legendary moments of the Oscars with John Travolta as the protagonist.

The Game Awards 2024 gala was not only full of powerful announcements of new video games such as Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet or The Witcher 4, but it also left us with some funny moments to remember. One of these strange snapshots starred Harrison Ford, who took the stage for a few minutes to both celebrate the release of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and to announce the Best Performance award. Ford had a hilarious slip of the tongue and mispronounced the name of Melina Juergens, the award winner for her role in Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II, which became one of the most memorable moments of the event and was reminiscent of a mythical moment by John Travolta at the 2014 Academy Awards.

Harrison Ford makes a hilarious mistake, mispronouncing Melina Juergens' name from Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II at The Game Awards

Harrison Ford was one of the stars of The Game Awards 2024 gala, where he served as host to announce who would take home the award for Best Performance. His appearance on stage also served to celebrate the release of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, a title as long-awaited as it is acclaimed, with Troy Baker providing the voice of Indy in the English version.

The popular actor asked for a round of applause for both Troy Baker and Todd Howard, not before congratulating Baker for nailing his performance as Indiana Jones in the game, joking, “If I knew you were that good, I would have done it myself”. But his funniest moment came when it was time to announce the winner of the TGA 2024 Best Performance award: Melina Juergens, for lending her voice and face to the protagonist of Senua’s saga: Hellblade II. Ford called her “Melinda Juergens” and misspelled her name. You can watch the video below:

It was one of the most curious moments of the gala, not only because of Ford’s performance, but also because of the hilarious gaffe. For many, the moment was reminiscent of the 2014 Oscars gala, when John Travolta mispronounced Idina Menzel’s name as “Adele Dazeem,” leading to all kinds of jokes and memes about it.

While Ford’s mistake was not as big as Travolta’s at the time, it shows that even established stars in film and television can sometimes make unintentional mistakes like this due to live nerves, something that is even more pronounced in the case of older actors like Harrison Ford, who is 80 years old. Moments like these add a touch of spontaneity and humanity to big galas like The Game Awards, reminding us that even legends like Ford are flesh-and-blood people who make mistakes
