Hatsune Miku is getting a movie by the studio behind Shirobako, and already has a trailer
Project Sekai The Movie: Kowareta Sekai to Utaenai Miku, the Hatsune Miku movie, is releasing on January 2025 under P.A. Works.
The popularity of Hatsune Miku as the most famous and well-known Vocaloid does not decline, and good proof of this is in the announcement that the idol will have her own anime movie. The film is being produced by P.A. Works, a prestigious studio that has names like The Eccentric Family, and Sirius the Jaeger, although one of its best-known works is Shirobako, a charming and highly recommended immersion into what the day-to-day life of an animation studio is like, with its good and also bad parts. The film, which will be called Project Sekai The Movie: Kowareta Sekai to Utaenai Miku (which roughly translates as “a ruined world in which Miku cannot sing”), will be released in Japanese theaters on January 16, 2025.
From what is clear from the trailer and what little has been revealed, the film will revolve around an amateur singer, Hoshino Ichika, who performs on the street. After listening to her, the avatar Miku appears on several devices to ask for help: the virtual idol does not stop singing, but no one seems to listen to her and that is why she needs Ichika and her friends: to be able to reach the world with her voice.
The project is linked to the latest video game iteration of Miku and the rest of Crypton’s Vocaloid, the mobile game Project Sekai/Colourful Stage. More will be known about the film on September 27, as there will be a live stream for the fourth anniversary of the game, in which more news about the film and, perhaps, announcements of new titles are expected (something new for consoles has been expected for a while since the last Project DIVA dates back to 2020 if we don’t count the PC version that arrived in 2022). At the moment, there is no information on international plans for the distribution of the film, although we hope that it will materialize sooner or later.
