Update:

Keeping pace with the industry trend, HBO Max has announced a price increase across all its subscription tiers, effective immediately for new customers. The move, which was first reported by Variety, raises the cost of both monthly and annual plans, allowing the service to better support its growing slate of high-profile original content.

While the new pricing hits new sign-ups immediately, existing subscribers will benefit from a staggered rollout. Current monthly subscribers will receive a 30-day notice, meaning the price increase will take effect on their next billing date on or after November 20, 2025. This offers a short window for existing users before their monthly payment rises. For those on annual plans, the current price remains locked in until their next renewal date, at which point they will also be notified 30 days in advance of the price change.

HBO Max price rises October 2025:

  • Monthly basic with commercials: was $9.99, now $10.99
  • Annual basic with commercials: was $99.99, now $109.99
  • Monthly standard: was $16.99, now $18.49
  • Annual standard: was $169.99, now $184.99
  • Monthly premium: was $20.99, now $22.99
  • Annual premium: was $200.99, now $229.99

The Content Investment

Warner Bros. Discovery is leveraging the price hike to fund an aggressive content strategy that is already delivering. The service is already home to critically acclaimed hits like The Last of Us, The White Lotus, The Sopranos, and DC titles like Peacemaker and The Penguin. The price adjustment also comes just in time for one of the platform’s biggest horror debuts of the year. The prequel series It: Welcome to Derry, from film director Andy Muschietti, is set to debut on the service this Sunday, October 26. Furthermore, the award-winning medical drama The Pitt, starring Noah Wyle, is preparing for its highly anticipated second season premiere in January, demonstrating the continued investment in high-quality original drama.

Looking further ahead, the price changes will help bankroll a massive slate of forthcoming series. This includes the DC TV show Lanterns, the third season of House of the Dragon in early summer 2026, and the highly anticipated new Game of Thrones spin-off, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which debuts in January 2026.
