HBO’s new Harry Potter series gets underway: first image from the film set
The highly anticipated adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s novels is set to premiere on Max in 2026.

The Harry Potter franchise remains as popular as ever, nearly three decades after the first book’s release. In 2023, rumors surfaced that HBO Max was negotiating a serialized adaptation of the beloved novels, aiming to revive the franchise after the lukewarm reception of the Fantastic Beasts films.
The series will dedicate each season to a single book, allowing for deeper exploration of events that were cut from the films.
First set image: Privet Drive
Filming has officially begun, and the first image from the set has surfaced, showing 4 Privet Drive, the home of the Dursley family. This location plays a crucial role in Harry’s early life, as his aunt and uncle attempt to suppress his magical heritage.

Casting updates and controversy
While the actors for Harry, Ron, and Hermione have yet to be announced, several key Hogwarts professors have been cast:
- John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore
- Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall
- Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape
Essiedu’s casting has sparked debate online, with some questioning the choice due to his Ghanaian heritage.

Additionally, J.K. Rowling’s involvement as an executive producer has reignited discussions about her controversial views on gender identity, which could impact the series’ reception.
