Heavy blow for Insomniac's Marvel's Wolverine, Xbox poaches one of its key men

The creative director of Marvel’s Wolverine signs with The Initiative to work on Perfect Dark.

The job market is on fire across the board, and video games are no exception, especially when it comes to layoffs. However, the signings and changes usually go unnoticed, except when it comes to a title as important as Marvel’s Wolverine, the next big PlayStation 5 exclusive, which has taken a direct hit to the chin. The previous creative director, Brian Horton, has left Insomniac Games to go to its biggest rival: he has just signed to work at The Initiative, the studio in charge of one of the most anticipated exclusives of the Xbox ecosystem: Perfect Dark.

After the leak of data and gameplay, Marvel’s Wolverine suffers another blow

The earthquake at Insomniac does not end there and is that its director, Cameron Christian, is also out of the project, although he will continue to work at the studio. An Xbox representative has said that Horton will be “bringing his wealth of experience to the upcoming reboot of the classic secret agent series,” giving a very hard blow to what is likely, and in the absence of confirmation of an official date, the big exclusive of PlayStation Studios that should reach the market before, in theory. Horton will be replaced by Marcus Smith, who was the creative director of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart.

As such, Horton leaves Insomniac after a fantastic run with Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, a standalone title that served as a bridge between Marvel’s Spider-Man and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and was well received as the wall-crawler’s debut on PlayStation 5. On the other hand, the development of Marvel’s Wolverine continues to cause headaches for the studio, almost always for external reasons, as development had to be halted during the coronavirus pandemic and subsequently suffered a massive leak of data and gameplay in an apparently early state.
