Insomniac confirms their upcoming Wolverine game shares a universe with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

The Insomniac Games Marvel universe grows even larger, now that the studio has confirmed that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Wolverine happen in the same universe

Update:
Spider-Man Wolverine

We can’t help it: we are still enjoying Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 but we are already thinking about the next Insomniac Games title, also starring a character from the House of Ideas. Marvel’s Wolverine is still a long time coming, arriving at the earliest in the second half of 2024, if not in 2025, but the studio is already drip-feeding fans some info about the upcoming Wolverine game.

As confirmed by the creative director of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, both games take place in the same universe. “They’re all 1048,” said Bryan Intihar in the Kinda Funny Podcast. He’s referring to Earth-1048, the official title that Marvel has given for the Spidey game universe run by Insomniac Games, and in which there are also a few comics.

Are there references to Wolverine in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2?

Intihar made it clear: let no one bother exploring the map of New York looking for nods to Wolverine. “There was a decision not to do it,” he explained about the absence of references to Logan in the game. “I’m just trying to get Spider-Man off the ground while there’s another Marvel thing I’m trying to get. I think for us it’s like ‘Let’s just let that team cook.’ Let them cook. Let them make the game they want to make. Who knows what the future holds, but for now let’s let them do their thing, and that game’s going to be great.”

Recently we have seen games like Marvel Midnight Suns, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, and Marvel’s Avengers that have nothing to do with each other, not only with each other, but they also have no relationship with the Insomniac Games Spider-Man universe. However, there once was a time when this plan was completely different, as Marvel even launched Earth-1048 in the comics dubbed as the “Gamerverse” where every videogame being developed at the time was canon.
