Helldivers 2 developers have a blunt opinion on Fortnite’s new season: “We have Helldivers at home”
Fortnite’s new season draws very democratic comparisons to Helldivers 2.
Fortnite’s newest season, Shock N’ Awesome, arrived this weekend with a concept that pits island survivors against a space bug invasion. And of course, if you’re an avid multiplayer, there are sure to be details that in some way take inspiration from other games, as is the case with Helldivers 2.
This has not gone unnoticed among the game’s developers at Arrowhead Game Studios, who have commented on the similarities between their game and the new season within the game’s Discord. Arrowhead CEO Shams Jorjani was asked, “You enjoying the new Fortnite season? It seems eerily familiar.” In response, Jorjani acknowledged, “It feels very democratic.” In addition to Shams Jorjani, community manager, Baskinator, was asked about Fortnite’s new season. Baskinator said, “hmmm… it’s giving ‘we have Helldivers at home.’”
In another thread, Baskinator said, “I’m not worried. Fortnite is Fortnite, Helldivers is Helldivers.” The community manager also said, “If the kings of video game drip think our drip is cool enough to… inspire them… then that’s super cool. But our games couldn’t be more different from one another. There’s room for us all at the king’s table.”
A very spacey season
Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 4 has many nods to heroes who have faced certain cosmic problems, having as guests in its battle pass characters like SPARTANs from Halo to the very Green Ranger from Power Rangers. And although this season could have a collaboration with Helldivers, it seems from the comments that democracy will not come to the Epic Games title. Or maybe, this can help with the call to Democracy arriving to Xbox later this month.
