Here's Why You Shouldn't Stick Your Vacation Magnets to the Fridge

Sticking your vacation magnets on the fridge is a tradition, but today it poses a risk to the appliance.

Here's Why You Shouldn't Stick Your Vacation Magnets to the Fridge

Walking into a kitchen often has certain similarities from home to home. There are microwaves, a sink, a washing machine and, of course, a refrigerator. Where would we be without the refrigerator? It is the basic appliance in every home. It’s usually covered in magnets so you can proudly display all the places you’ve been. But it’s not a good idea to do it on every refrigerator.

What happens to the most famous summer souvenirs in your fridge?

If your refrigerator is state of the art, it probably has sensors on the front of the door that can conflict with the magnets. The magnetic field created by the souvenirs tends to cause panels or elements that require digital automation to malfunction. The malfunction may not be noticeable at first, but it will gradually take its toll on your appliance.

The materials used to make the grips are largely to blame. For example, they typically contain large amounts of neodymium, known as the most powerful material used in permanent magnets.

Placing a magnet next to a refrigerator will not destroy the refrigerator. Everything in its place. A few magnets are not enough to take away the sensors around the display. It happens when we fill the refrigerator with them beyond measure. That’s when we have to be careful what we do. Obviously, older or simpler models are exempt from all kinds of problems. If your display is clean, you can use it as a mural of your personal memories.
