Capcom

Hideaki Itsuno, director of Dragon's Dogma 2, talks about the massive size of the game's map

Capcom’s new RPG aims to be one of the biggest games of 2024.

Dragon's Dogma 2

Dragon’s Dogma 2 will be released this March 22nd, and expectations for the sequel to Capcom’s RPG couldn’t be higher. The foundations of the original game will be explored in greater depth, and a single-player experience will go far beyond the usual. The director of the game, Hideaki Itsuno, has been interviewed by Automaton, and among several questions, one of the ones that stand out refers to the size of the game world, and the Japanese creative did not hesitate to make it clear that it is even bigger than they had originally thought. What is this principle? Well, a map four times larger than the original game, but it seems that they have fallen short.

Regarding the size of the game world, Hideaki Itsuno emphasized that “we always say that the map in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is four times the size of the previous one, but we haven’t measured it exactly, and the development team believes it to be much larger. The number of towns has increased dramatically too. There are two large countries, with various settlements within them. However, rather than the size of the map, we placed a much stronger emphasis on its density. We’ve gone through numerous adjustments of the map, making sure to eliminate tedious time spent moving through the field.”

Dragon’s Dogma 2, is an RPG that aims very high

Dragon’s Dogma 2 aims to be one of the great experiences of this 2024 in the video game industry, and from what its director and the rest of the team members say, it stands out not only for its size, but also for offering an attractive and pleasant experience when traveling and being in the world they have created.

In our first impressions of the game, we mentioned that “An hour wasn’t enough time to go as deep into each class as we would have liked, but it was enough to understand the basic mechanics and a bit of what to expect. We can only hope that when it arrives, it will surprise us like a dragon from the sky.”
