Hollow Knight Silksong: Valentine’s Day reminds us that we have been waiting for 5 years

Another Valentine’s Day, another year without Hollow Knight: Silksong releasing. Will this finally be the year we get to play Hornet’s adventure?

February 14, 2019. That was the day when Team Cherry announced to the world that their next DLC for Hollow Knight would become a full-fledged sequel to the legendary metroidvania. Today, it is February 14, 2024. Five long years have passed since, and as time goes by we’ve been subjected to long periods of silence, and still no Hollow Knight: Silksong.

Meant to let players experience the fantastic abilities of Hornet, one of the most important characters from the original game who is by all accounts a magnificent warrior of Hallownest, Silksong will show us the kingdom of Pharloom, where she has seemingly been captured and no has to explore an entirely new land of bugs and monsters. So far, from what we’ve seen at least, the game is looking to be another high quality action adventure game with all of the charm fans grew to love.

Quirky characters, epic bosses, grandiose kingdoms and astonishing regions have all been shown off in the trailers and screenshots. Some people have even been able to get their hands on special demos of the title in the now defunct E3. Oh right, since its announcement, we’ve gone through a pandemic, two presidents, and the death (and revival… and definitive death) of E3.

What to expect when you’re expecting a long-awaited release…

Well, no one could have expected that five years after its announcement we still wouldn’t have the game in our hands. Team Cherry has been completely silent since May 2023. Now fans have begun to revolt: Some have chosen to stretch their creative muscles and release their own versions/parodies of Silksong. Others have begun threatening the developers with the deletion of fan communities as a protest to their absence.

Of course, there isn’t much that we can really do. As always we must remember that the developers are human beings, so we can’t even begin to assume that they are the perfect beings we take them for, capable of working 18 hours a day every day to make another masterpiece. As mentioned above we have been through very hard times since the announcement of the game, so it is completely understandable that development might have slowed down due to unforeseen consequences.

Having said that, we REALLY are itching for more Hollow Knight. Let’s hope that this is the year where we at the very least get to hear some updates about the game. It could be worse, like waiting for Little Devil Inside. Or Megaman Legends 3

Hollow Knight: Silksong will be released eventually, we hope, and is set to launch on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC through Steam.
