How much will Project Q cost? Everything you need to know about the new PlayStation handheld

We take a look at what we know so far about Project Q, the upcoming PlayStation device that will allow us to play remotely with our PS5.

PlayStation Project Q

It’s been over 2 months since we learned about the much-rumored Project Q during the last PlayStation Showcase in May 2023. Since then, Sony has been silent about this device, and although it seemed to be the company’s return to portable consoles, for now, it is just a controller with a screen that will facilitate the use of Remote Play with the PlayStation 5. What does it do? When will it be available? How much will it cost? Here is everything we know so far.

Everything we know about Project Q

As mentioned before, Project Q is a device that will facilitate the remote play mode of the PlayStation 5. Based on the control of this console, the DualSense, it will add an 8-inch HD screen with which, through a Wi-Fi connection, it will be possible to play the titles already installed on the console.

As for the specifications, some details are still unknown. The presentation of Project Q makes something clear to us, this device is only for the use of Remote Play, a feature that can currently be used on smartphones and tablets connected to a PlayStation 5. This does not mean that it is an alternative to buying a PlayStation 5. For now, we know that it will use an LCD screen that will allow games to run at 1080p and 60 fps over Wi-Fi. On the other hand, we can only assume that it will have all the DualSence features, such as haptic feedback and adaptive trigger resistance.

How much will Project Q cost?

For now, the lack of knowledge of certain details about this device makes it difficult to give an approximation of what its price will be. Although there are assumptions, nothing is official. The most recent information about the possible price of the device is a statement from Microsoft in its current legal battle against the FTC, where it is certain that Sony will launch this device “later this year for less than $300″.

Obviously, we cannot take a competitor’s guess as an official price, but at least it gives us an idea of what the industry internally thinks a possible price for this product might be.

When will Project Q be available?

For now, it is known that this device will arrive at the end of 2023, as mentioned in its presentation. In the same, Jim Ryan, President and CEO of SIE, mentioned that they expected to share more information in the near future, so it is a matter of waiting for the next presentation of PlayStation to give more data (and why not, already a definitive name) of this device.
