How to break the 9,999 damage limit in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 with every character
Every character in the game can deal far more damage, but it’s not something you can achieve right away.

In any JRPG, players strive to reach maximum power, making battles easier. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is no exception. Dealing more than 9,999 damage isn’t just a milestone, it’s practically mandatory for tackling the hardest fights. Without surpassing this cap, bosses like Serpenfaro, Clea, and Simon become overwhelming, making every battle a brutal test of endurance.
If you’re worried about reaching this threshold, don’t be. Unlocking higher damage is surprisingly simple.
Spoiler Alert: This section reveals the final boss battle details.
How to deal more than 9,999 damage in Expedition 33
Unlike complex builds that allow players to deal millions of damage, breaking the 9,999 limit doesn’t require anything special. The only key step is reaching Monolith Peak, one of the final dungeons, and defeating The Paintress.
Once victorious, you’ll receive Painter Power, a Pictos that:
- Grants major stat boosts.
- Unlocks Lumina, an ability that removes the damage cap.
By this point, characters should be level 50 or higher, meaning they’ll immediately see a surge in damage potential.
How to maximize damage output
Equipping Painter Power allows any character to break past the 9,999 cap effortlessly. Gradient attacks, special abilities, and even basic strikes become far more powerful, with some hits reaching 15,000, 30,000, or even 50,000 damage.

If that still isn’t enough, soon we’ll reveal how to push those numbers even higher, perhaps into the millions.
