How to get early access to Starfield: release date, platforms, and duration

Bethesda is almost ready to unleash Starfield into the world, and fans are more than ready. But did you know you can play the game before its official launch?

Update:
Starfield

Fans of Bethesda are already packing their bags and donning their best spacesuits, ready to jump into Starfield once it releases on September 6. But while that’s the official date it releases its various versions and it’s made available on Game Pass, some people might be able to play almost a week before.

The developers of the game announced that one of the pre-order bonuses in certain special editions of Starfield is “up to five days early access” to the full game. This is an exclusive benefit for those who buy the game in its more pricey editions, but one that will allow owners to start playing on Friday, September 1. That’s five days before everyone else gets to explore the space adventure created by the makers of The Elder Scrolls.

How to get Starfield before its release

If you want to get into this early access period, you can still do so by pre-ordering one of two different premium editions. Of course, these all have costs far above the standard for a copy of a new game, but it’s the only way to get in if you just can’t wait anymore. These are the editions that contain early access for Starfield:

  • Starfield Premium Edition - $99.99
  • Starfield Constellation Edition - $299.99

If you’ve already pre-ordered the standard edition, there’s an option to upgrade to the Premium Edition that gives you all the benefits for an additional $34.99. As for exactly when you’ll be able to take off on your space adventure, that will be determined by your time zone and availability.

The Starfield early access period will be available on every platform that the game will release on, meaning Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC through both Steam and the Xbox Store. With promises of the game having over 1000 planets free to explore and a massive universe full of characters, quests, and activities, it’s looking like the best path of action with Starfield will be to take your time and play at leisure. So a few extra days of play before the internet is full of spoilers and guides could go a long way for some players.
