How to schedule messages in WhatsApp and send them at the time you want on Android and iOS

If you need to schedule an auto-reply message in the app for your contacts, here’s how.

The more free time you have, the more you tend to use social media, and summer vacation is an ideal time to do so. But there are also people who want to do the opposite and use their phones as little as possible to really disconnect from everyday life.

Create a message to be sent at a specific time

But if you want or need to schedule a message for a contact or Whatsapp group to receive it on a certain day or time, several third-party applications on the market can serve you for this purpose. These are the ones we recommend today: SKEDit Scheduling for Android and Shortcuts for iOS.

SKEDit Scheduling

One of its best features is that it works not only for WhatsApp, but you can use this application to automate other mobile services such as scheduling a phone call, sending an SMS, sending an email or even uploading a Facebook post.

  1. First, go to the Google Play Store and download SKEDit Scheduling for Android. You will have to accept several permissions during the installation process
  2. You will see that there are several options to choose from, as the app works with more services. Select WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business as needed
  3. Now you will see the main interface: the first thing to do is to add the contact or contacts you want to send the message to.
  4. Now you need to compose the body of the message. The application also allows you to attach an image.
  5. The next step is to program the day, month, year, and the exact time you want to send the text. There is also an option for the app to warn you before sending the message.
  6. One requirement that the application requires is that you disable the automatic screen lock if you have it enabled. Otherwise, the message will not be sent on the selected date.

Shortcuts

  1. Go to the App Store and download the Shortcuts app for iPhone.
  2. Select the Automation tab at the bottom.
  3. Tap the + icon in the upper right corner and tap Create Personal Automation.
  4. On the next screen, tap Time of Day to schedule when you want your automation to run. Select the dates and times you want to schedule WhatsApp messages. When you are done, tap Next.
  5. Tap Add Action.
  6. Then, in the search bar, type 'text' and select Text from the list of actions that appear.
  7. Next, type your message in the text box. This message is whatever you want to program, for example, “Happy Birthday.”
  8. When you are done typing, press the + icon below the text box and search for WhatsApp in the search bar.
  9. In the list of actions that appears, select Send message via WhatsApp. Select the recipient and tap Next. Finally, on the next screen, tap Done.
  10. You will now receive a notification from the Shortcuts app at the scheduled time. Tap the notification and WhatsApp will open with your message pasted into the text box. All you have to do is tap Send.
