If your WhatsApp shows these signs, someone has ‘tapped’ it
Detect signs of unauthorized access and protect your privacy before it’s too late.

In an increasingly technology-driven world, protecting digital privacy has become a priority. Even messaging applications like WhatsApp, which are used daily by millions of people, are not immune to the risks of hacking and espionage. Third parties can access our private conversations without our consent through various techniques, from installing malicious apps to misusing WhatsApp Web. Fortunately, there are clear signs that can alert you to possible intervention. Here, we explain what these signs are.
Signs of Intervention in Your WhatsApp Account:
- Unexpected arrival of an OTP code. One of the first alerts is receiving an SMS with a six-digit verification code from WhatsApp. WhatsApp only sends this code when someone tries to log in to your account from another device. If you didn’t request it, then someone else is trying to access your account.
- Unexpected logout: If WhatsApp suddenly closes or disconnects you for no apparent reason, it could be a sign that someone is trying to log in to your account from another device. You can check which devices are connected from “Settings” > “WhatsApp Web” to ensure that only you have access.
- Unexplained Read Messages: Are your messages appearing as “read” even though you haven’t opened them? This is a clear sign that someone else may be using your account.
- Have you received messages that you did not write? Seeing a sent message that you don’t remember writing is a serious red flag. It could mean that someone is using your account to communicate with others or commit fraud.
- You may also see statuses that you never posted. If a status appears on your profile that you didn’t post, it could mean that your account has been compromised. Cybercriminals can use this tool to send misleading messages to your contacts.
- Calls to unknown numbers are also suspicious. Calls made to contacts you don’t recognize are also suspicious. If you don’t remember making them, your account may be compromised.

How to Protect Your Account: Enable Two-Step Verification
This is one of the most effective ways to prevent unauthorized access. This system adds an extra layer of security by requiring a six-digit PIN that only you know. To activate it:
- Tap the three-dot icon in the upper right corner.
- Then, go to Settings > Account > 2-Step Verification.
- Click “Enable” and enter a six-digit PIN.
- Add an email address in case you forget the code.
Remember not to share this PIN with anyone and to update it regularly if you suspect it may have been compromised. In an increasingly hostile digital environment, recognizing these signs and taking preventative measures can make the difference between keeping your data safe or becoming a victim of a cyberattack. Be vigilant.
