If you’re playing Assassin’s Creed Shadows in this mode: you might be missing out on decisions, romances, and dialogues

The Canon Mode automates decisions based on the protagonists' personalities.

Assassin's Creed Shadows

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is an adventure game with RPG elements that follows the core design principles of Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla. This means the protagonists interact with other characters and carve out their own paths. Decisions and romances help define the personalities of Naoe and Yasuke. However, this video game includes a specific mode that reimagines how dialogue mechanics work. In addition to Immersive Mode—which ensures all characters speak their native languages—canon mode makes decisions for the player.

When canon mode is activated, the game selects dialogue options that best align with the personalities of both protagonists. Meanwhile, Ubisoft Quebec’s new production introduces romances, similar to those in previous titles. That said, canon mode removes this feature, making it impossible to experience them unless the mode is turned off. Another option is also eliminated: at certain points in the game, players are asked whether they want to control Yasuke or Naoe. Needless to say, canon mode makes this choice for the player as well.

One of the Series’ Most Notable Releases

Assassin’s Creed Shadows has already surpassed 2 million users, making it one of the best launches in the franchise—outperforming Origins and Odyssey. Even so, Ubisoft has yet to reveal sales data.
