It’s official: Elden Ring on Switch 2 avoids the “bomb month” and reveals some bad news for those who want the Tarnished Edition on other platforms

Bandai Namco and From Software reveal the game’s release date.

Update:

Outside of a Nintendo Direct and via a tweet: From Software and Bandai Namco have revealed the final release date for Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition. This edition, exclusive to the Switch 2, will launch on August 28, steering clear of the packed release schedule that September has become. With the movie on the horizon, this is a fantastic opportunity to bring more players into the epic world of Hidetaka Miyazaki and George R.R. Martin.

But there’s some bad news for fans of the game on other platforms. The Tarnished Edition includes some previously unreleased content that will also be coming to PS5, PS4, Xbox, and PC. This additional content will be sold separately on those consoles at a price that has not yet been revealed, except in Japan: 550 yen, which is approximately $3.44.

What does the DLC include, and what will players get on Nintendo Switch 2?

The publisher promises in a press release that this DLC adds “two new starting classes, a new armor, and consumization features for Torrent’s appearance,” which is the spectral steed that accompanies players throughout the adventure.

This means that players on Nintendo Switch 2 will have the complete edition of the game, as it includes not only the base game and the previously unreleased DLC but also the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, which adds over 40 hours of gameplay set in a map different from The Lands Between.

Both the base game and the expansion have received a 10 on MeriStation, the highest possible rating awarded by our colleagues in Spain. On this side of the pond, our former colleague Mike Reyes had this to say about Shadow of the Erdtree: “There is no way to describe the Elden Ring DLC without making it sound like hyperbole, and that isn’t without good reason. What Shadow of the Erdtree is delivering to players who can access it is akin to what Metroidvania fans felt in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night when discovering the inverted castle. Yes, perhaps it being a DLC removes the element of surprise, but what you get is still an entirely new map full of new bosses, new content, and so much more.”
