James Earl Jones (’Star Wars’, ‘The Lion King’) dies at 93

In addition to voicing Darth Vader and Mufasa, the renowned actor is one of the few prestigious EGOT winners.

Renowned actor James Earl Jones, born in Arkabutla, Mississippi, passed away this morning at the age of 93.

James Earl Jones’ career has delivered a total of 190 credits as an actor in both audiovisual media. His film career began in Stanley Kubrick’s classic Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb, although his film career really took off when he voiced one of cinema’s greatest villains, Darth Vader in ‘Star Wars’. His other voice work includes the voice of Mufasa in The Lion King and the voice of CNN’s campaign promos. This path in his career was immortalized thanks to The Simpsons.

His major film credits also include Coming to America, Field of Dreams, The Hunt for Red October and The Sandlot.

Though many will remember him for his roles in broadcast media, Jones is one of the few entertainers to have conquered the famous EGOT, earning awards at the Emmy (television), Grammy (music), Oscar (motion picture), and Tony (theater) levels. In his career, Jones has won two Primetime Emmy Awards, a Grammy Award, three Tony Awards, and has been awarded an Honorary Academy Award.

In the world of video games, James Earl Jones reprised his role as Mufasa in Kingdom Hearts 2, although his most notable role is as General James Solomon in Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun.

James Earl Jones Will Live On Forever As Darth Vader

Although his light has been extinguished and he is now at one with the Force, we will continue to hear James Earl Jones’ voice in future Darth Vader appearances. At the end of 2022, the actor said goodbye to the character, but signed an agreement so that Lucasfilm can continue to use his voice in other products, thanks to the technology of voice files to revive the character in future products of the saga.
