The Sith Lord took a personal journey and followed his late wife’s footsteps to the birth of their children.

Update:
Star Wars Darth Vader

The tragedy of Anakin Skywalker is told in parallel with the fall of the Galactic Republic, a plan Palpatine has been preparing for decades. The Jedi, in constant inner conflict, falls to the Dark Side and becomes Darth Vader, Darth Sidious’ apprentice. When his wife Padmé Amidala realizes what has happened to him, her life is extinguished forever: she gives birth to Luke and Leia and dies in childbirth. Masters Yoda and Obi-Wan decide to hide the children in different places to avoid being hunted by the newborn Empire, but Vader discovers the truth in the years to come and visits Padmé's tomb in search of answers.

The discovery in the tomb of Padmé Amidala

In the comic book series ‘Star Wars: Darth Vader’, set after ‘The Empire Strikes Back’, the Sith Lord embarks on a journey looking for his lost past. He knows that Luke Skywalker is his son because the bounty hunter Boba Fett gave him the family name long ago. He arrives on Tatooine and follows the trail until he meets Sabe, Queen Amidala’s doppelganger. Their resemblance is so uncanny that it awakens Skywalker’s dormant memories, but the maiden has a plan to destroy the Sith, which of course she fails to do. What happens next is that Vader continues his research and finds Padmé's tomb on Naboo.

Sabé begs Vader not to open the sarcophagus, but Vader turns a blind eye and uses the Force to pull off the lid, which is carved with the image of the former queen and senator. Memories flood back into his tortured mind, the happy memory of Amidala in love and the dark nightmare of trying to strangle her on Mustafar. He decides to give up and allows the droid to scan the inside of the sarcophagus, revealing that there is a medical implant that hides some coordinates, the place where Obi-Wan Kenobi took Padmé to give birth: Polis Massa.

The data has already been erased and the core damaged, so all Vader gets to see is a recording of Padmé in agony: “Obi-Wan, there is good in him, I know. I know... there is... still...”. The Sith spares Sabé's life and returns to his master.

The next ‘Star Wars’ series is ‘The Acolyte’, which will premiere in the U.S. on June 4 and is set during the final phase of the High Republic. Later, the special ‘Lego Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy,’ a what-if that will bring the return of Jar Jar Binks... as a Sith Lord.
