James Gunn clears rumors about the development of a game based on ‘The Batman’
After rumors of an official game set in the Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson ‘The Batman’ universe, the head of DC Studios has come out to set things straight.
James Gunn already stated a few months ago that absolutely everything that came out of DC Studios would be his and Peter Safran’s responsibility, including productions that were not part of his DC Universe. For this reason, Gunn has enough authority to deny a rumor that emerged last week according to which, some of the studios at Warner Bros Games were developing a video game based on ‘The Batman’.
As we know, the universe of ‘The Batman’ - including the series ‘The Penguin’- rests outside of the new DC Cinematic Universe, since they consider it to be of sufficient quality to move forward on its own. However, both Gunn and Safran control everything related to DC Studios licenses, and they want their new universe to be interconnected through various media: movies, series, comics, and video games.
“Sadly there is no truth to this whatsoever”, Gunn responded. in a fan’s Threads post that alludes to the popular Culture Crave announcement.
The Batman who will be part of the DC Universe
Unfortunately, even considering that we will not see the sequel to ‘The Batman’ until 2026, as its filming begins next year 2025, Gunn’s new Batman still has a long way to go. For the moment, the only certainty is that the director for its debut movie will be Andy Muschietti, who already directed ‘The Flash’ and who is currently working on the series ‘Welcome to Derry’, a prequel to ‘It’, with his sister Barbara. This production will be based on the story of ‘Batman: The Brave and the Bold’, and although it has not yet been confirmed who will be in charge of playing Bruce Wayne/Batman, there are several actors who have applied.
