James Gunn’s DC Universe favorite choice for Batman is already playing the character
Warner Bros. is thinking of making the Robert Pattinson and Matt Reeves version of Batman part of the new canon of James Gunn’s DC Universe.
A drastic turn of events is about to take place in the DC Universe of James Gunn, as David Zaslav, head of Warner Bros Discovery, is running out of patience. According to insider Jeff Sneider, if ‘The Batman 2′ does not arrive before 2026, we would have to wait even longer for the canon Dark Knight movie to arrive. With this, the decision they would be about to make sounds very logical, and that is to make Robert Pattinson’s Batman part of the main universe.

This film, based on ‘Batman: The Brave and the Bold’ and (for now) with Andy Muschietti (‘The Flash’) at the helm, would not arrive, being optimistic, until 2027. Zaslav’s thoughts are that by then, the Marvel Studios catalog will be immense, with films like ‘Captain America: Brave New World’, ‘Thunderbolts*’, ‘The Fantastic Four’, ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, not to mention series like ‘Daredevil: Born Again’, ‘IronHeart’... That said, Zaslav knows that to compete they need the most popular DC character today, which is, obviously, Batman. And they need him now.
Besides, ‘The Penguin’ is not the only spin-off planned to be set in the universe of Pattinson and Matt Reeves’ Batman, since they’re already working on ‘Arkham Asylum’, also outside of James Gunn’s official DC Universe. However, this being a mere leak, it remains to be seen whether ‘The Batman’ could retroactively become the first film in the DC Universe, whether it would already be in its sequel... or later.
