James Wan to adapt Pacific Drive, the indie hidden gem about supernatural driving, into a series
The director behind modern horror heavy hitters like ‘Saw’ and ‘The Conjuring’ is planning to adapt a 2024 video game hidden gem into a series.

Adaptations of video games to film and television have not always been in good health. Too often, gamers have had to put up with mediocre products, although there have been success stories in recent years—an example of this is ’The Last of Us’, whose second season will premiere next year. In the horror genre, everyone remembers the adaptation of ‘Silent Hill’, a film that will return with a new sequel in the near future. Beyond the Konami saga, it has just been confirmed that one of the most recognized directors of the genre is working on translating another game, but this time as a series: James Wan, known for franchises like ‘Saw’, ‘Insidious’ and ‘The Conjuring’.
According to Variety, James Wan’s production company, Atomic Monster, has acquired the rights to develop a series based on Pacific Drive. Wan himself will serve as executive producer alongside Michael Clear and Rob Hackett. Jeff Ludwig of The Menagerie Productions will also be an executive producer. Production details are scarce, but it is known that the adaptation of this survival game still has not been signed onto any streaming platform, so we will have to wait for the project to come to fruition.
What is Pacific Drive about?
“Pacific Drive is a driving and survival game in which your only companion is your vehicle,” says the official synopsis. “Sail through a surreal recreation of the northeastern United States and face supernatural dangers as you venture into the Olympic Exclusion Zone.” The player will have to take different excursions with “unique challenges”, all while repairing and upgrading his vehicle in a nearby abandoned garage, which serves as a sort of headquarters. It will be necessary to obtain resources, investigate, and solve a long-forgotten mystery. Surviving will not be easy.
The game developed by Ironwood Studios is available on PS5 and PC.
