Jim Carrey returns as ‘The Grinch’ in a Ron Howard-directed sequel about the character who hates Christmas the most
The original film was the highest-grossing movie in the United States in 2000.

‘The Grinch’ is set to return to the big screen in a sequel, with Jim Carrey and Ron Howard once again on board as star and director, respectively. The iconic character created by Dr. Seuss—the man behind such beloved figures as ‘The Cat in the Hat,’ ‘the Lorax,’ and ‘Horton’—has established itself over the decades as one of the great symbols of Christmas, thanks in large part to the film adaptation released in 2000.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jim Carrey is currently in negotiations to reprise his role as the Grinch. Ron Howard is set to return as director and will also serve as a producer alongside his Imagine Entertainment partner, Brian Grazer. The sequel does not yet have an official title, but its mere confirmation has generated enormous excitement, as this project comes 26 years after the release of the original film.

One of the greatest Christmas hits in film history is back
‘The Grinch’ premiered in the United States on November 17, 2000, just before Thanksgiving. Its impact was immediate: it became the highest-grossing film of the year in the United States, earning $260 million domestically and $345 million worldwide.
