John Williams to compose music for Steven Spielberg’s new UFO movie (2026)
The Oscar-winning duo behind E.T., Jaws, and Jurassic Park join forces once again for an untitled Universal Pictures project.

The celebrated and legendary 93-year-old composer John Williams will once again join forces with director Steven Spielberg for his upcoming untitled UFO film scheduled for release in 2026.
The information was revealed by Damian Woetze, president of the acclaimed performing arts institution Juilliard School, during a recent event entitled “John Williams – A Composer’s Life: A Night of Stories and Music,” according to Doug Adams. During the event, Woetzel mentioned that Williams “is working with Steven Spielberg on the next movie” in Los Angeles. This would be the 30th film that Williams has scored for Spielberg, having collaborated on films such as Jaws, Jurassic Park, E.T., Indiana Jones, Schindler’s List, Saving Private Ryan, Lincoln, as well as collaborations that did not receive credit.

Previously, Williams had announced that Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny would be his last film; however, in 2024 he backtracked, commenting that “If a film came along that I was greatly interested in, with a schedule that I could cope with, then I wouldn’t want to rule anything out. Everything is possible.”

For now, details remain scarce regarding the director’s next project. Clearly, this isn’t the first time Spielberg has tackled the subject of UFOs and extraterrestrials, so there’s no need to be too concerned. The film for Universal Pictures will be written by David Koepp, who has previously worked with Spielberg on films such as Jurassic Park, The Lost World, and War of the Worlds. It is known that Josh O’Connor, Emily Blunt, Colman Domingo, Colin Firth, and Eve Hewson will lead the ensemble cast.
