Josh Brolin wanted to return as Cable for ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ but Marvel never called
The man behind Cable in Deadpool 2 laments his absence in the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine and shares his excitement about the film.
‘Deadpool and Wolverine’, the next entry to Ryan Reynolds’ Merc with a Mouth series of films (now in the MCU) with his Hugh Jackman returning as Wolverine, will feature a ton of cameos from previous films in the mutant universe of Fox. However, it seems like Josh Brolin’s Cable will miss out on the party. This was confirmed by the actor himself in a recent interview on the Bingerworthy TV podcast, ensuring that he didn’t know why Marvel Studios didn’t ask him to return to his role, but also celebrated Jackman’s return as Logan.
Is Cable a part of ‘Deadpool 3′?
Marvel Studios hasn’t included Josh Brolin as Cable in any trailer for the film, nor has he even been mentioned as part of its cast despite being a key character in the second Deadpool movie and leaving its ending completely open to future appearances. Be that as it may, the actor himself assures that he doesn’t know the reasons for his absence in ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’, although he also holds no grudge against Marvel Studios, where he already played Thanos -lending his voice and motion capture- in ‘Avengers Infinity War’ and ‘Avengers Endgame’.
When the interviewer jokingly mentioned that he surely is in the movie because he’s listed in its IMDB page, the actor responded jokingly “Am I? Yeeeesssss! I so wanted to be in that movie.” He proceeded to explain that Marvel “is a more complex labyrinth than ‘Outer Range’ will ever be, my friend. And I will never know where that went or what that is or what I’m involved with or what I’m not involved with —the MCU being involved now. Cable was a lot of fun. I really liked doing that role. That was a lot of fun.”
Even so, Brolin celebrates the return of the film’s co-star, with Hugh Jackman, who has given everything to come back fitter than ever as Wolverine: “Hugh [Jackman], I’m absolutely in love with,” he exclaimed. “I know Ryan [Reynolds] now, and I’ve met Hugh a couple of times, and I think when he did ‘Logan’—forget it! I mean, Scott Frank, who wrote it, is a good friend of mine and I just think the coming together of [these characters] is just fantastic. And Hugh, I don’t know how old Hugh is now—is he 56, 57? I mean, seriously, the dude doesn’t age. So, yeah. I’m a big fan of his.”
However, it seems that we are left without Brolin as Cable in ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ and in the MCU in general. Although, let’s not forget that other actors in superhero roles denied time and again future returns to surprise with the premiere of their films; and if not ask Andrew Garfield in ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’.
