Just Cause is getting a live-action adaptation with the ‘Blue Beetle’ director already on board

Universal has just confirmed a new video game adaptation for the big screen, this time by the hand of Ángel Manuel Soto, the director behind DC Studios’ ‘Blue Beetle’

Hollywood has turned its attention at the video game industry more than ever, ready to take advantage of big ideas and bring them to the big - and small - screen, with greater or lesser success. We have recent examples in handfuls, among them shows like ‘The Last of Us’ and ‘Fallout’, or movies like ‘Super Mario Bros.: The Movie’, ‘Uncharted’, ‘Monster Hunter’, and ‘Tomb Raider’, among many others. Now, Universal Pictures has confirmed that it intends to bring another popular video game saga to the big screen: Just Cause, starring the indestructible Rico Rodriguez. And best of all is that it already has a director: Angel Manuel Soto.

Just Cause and its crazy popcorn action

As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, both Square Enix and Avalanche Studios have reached an agreement with Universal Pictures to bring to the big screen the popcorn action and crazy twists of the Just Cause franchise, with action hero Rico Rodriguez as a great protagonist. Besides, Angel Manuel Soto, director of ‘Blue Beetle’ for DC Studios, will be in charge of said adaptation.

After taking charge of the first Latino DC superhero on the big screen, the Puerto Rican filmmaker has already shown that he knows how to successfully capture on screen the craziest action that we can imagine; And if ‘Blue Beetle’ has something good, it is its overwhelming visual commitment in terms of action and spectacle. All this to make Rico’s most unlikely scenes come true with his characteristic hook and his versatile wingsuit.

For its part, the film based on Just Cause will have Kelly McCormick and David Leitch as producers, both of whom have already been in charge of great hits within the action genre such as ‘The Specialist’ and ‘Nobody’. At the time there is still no name attached to which actor will be in charge of giving life to good old Rico, so we will have to wait for future news to find out. Bets are open.
