‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ is the best movie of the year according to the New York Film Critics Circle

Critics of the big screen are beginning to point out the best films that 2023 had in store for us. There is plenty to choose from this year: ‘Oppenheimer’, ‘Barbie’, ‘May December’, ‘Napoleon’ and ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ are just some of the biggest names from these last 12 months of stories. The New York Film Critics Circle (NYFCC) has opted to name Scorsese’s work the best, though.

‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ was declared the winner of the Best Film award of 2023. The result comes from a vote of 50 journalists who are part of the group, among which are media such as Variety. The film was also able to win the award for Best Actress thanks to Lily Gladstone’s superb performance.

‘Barbie’ was notably forgotten during the awards. Not a single trophy was claimed by Greta Gerwig and her team, which now point to the more popular ceremonies (such as the Oscars) to receive critical recognition. Even ‘Oppenheimer’ has taken two wins in the New York afternoon, both for best director and best cinematography. Only time will tell where each one lands.
