Barbie’ was the biggest hit of the year in the world of cinema. The film directed by Greta Gerwig ended up being an outstanding surprise that managed to conquer millions of people worldwide. In recent decades, being a box office success usually means having a virtually guaranteed sequel, but ‘Barbie’ could be different, as Margot Robbie points out in an interview with the Associated Press.

“I think we put everything into this one. We didn’t build it to be a trilogy or something. Greta put everything into this movie, so I can’t imagine what would be next,” said Margot Robbie. “Original films can still hit huge,” a line from Robbie that shows that it is still possible for the world of cinema to have cohesive works and not always the overriding need to turn everything into a saga, trilogy or cinematic universe as audiences have become accustomed to in recent times.

The Barbie Phenomenon Swept the Globe

A historic phenomenon at the global box office, an unprecedented success for Warner. Barbie’ became the legendary studio’s highest-grossing film last August, surpassing ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2. It was unrivaled in an outstanding 2023 in theaters around the world, with films like ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’ or ‘Oppenheimer’ grossing big numbers.

The review of ‘Barbie’ by our colleagues in Spain highlighted that it is a “fresh, funny and provocative movie. Capable of taking you from laughter to that frantic blinking we all do to avoid a tear in our eye. We have some bad news for those who are pink-phobic: ‘Barbie’ is a marvel”.
