Larian Studios wants to make Baldur’s Gate 3 DLC, but still don’t know exactly what it’d be

The studio behind Baldur’s Gate 3 has left it clear that there’s a possibility, and a desire, of developing expansions to the game after its huge success.

Despite the great success it has had -and it still has to get, since the console versions have not yet come out- Baldur’s Gate 3 at all levels, and from the longevity of the game, players are eager for more adventures. At Larian Studios they are aware of these wishes and what’s more, they themselves are willing to provide more content for this already massive RPG.

At the moment there is nothing confirmed or official, but what is clear is that from the Belgian studio they do not rule out anything at all. Asked about this matter on IGN, Tom Butler, senior product manager, has made it clear that they want to “do more”.

“We’ll carry on patching for a while and then we’re all going to take a holiday and then we’ll figure out what we do next,” says Butler. “But at the moment, we genuinely have discussions. We want to do more. We don’t know what yet.”

This is in direct contrast to the words of Larian CEO Swen Vincke, who earlier this month, on the occasion of the game’s launch, mentioned that they had not thought about starting work on an expansion. However, they had not yet verified to what extent Baldur’s Gate 3 was well received, something that even they were caught by surprise, so it is more than likely that it is in your plans.

When is Baldur’s Gate 3 coming to consoles?

As for the console versions we were talking about, in recent days there has been very good news. Everyone has known for a few weeks that the launch of the game on PS5 was very close, specifically on September 6, but the Xbox Series version was set to arrive in 2024. However, a turn of events and an agreement between Phil Spencer and the studio itself has led Larian to accelerate the development of the Xbox Series X version, since Spencer agreed to sacrifice split screen in the Xbox Series S version, a source of development problems for Microsoft consoles.
