League of Legends MMO not coming soon after drastic studio decision

Marc Merrill, co-founder of Riot Games, has delivered terrible news for fans who have been waiting for the arrival of the MMO set in Runeterra.

If you are one of the many fans of League of Legends and its upcoming games, you have some bad news. The MMO spin-off of Riot Games’ MOBA will be delayed, leaving behind all the years of progress in its development.

Through his Twitter/X account, Marc Merrill, co-founder of Riot Games, gave a long update on the future of this game that will lead players to experience Runeterra from a different perspective. In this message it is clear that the MMO will completely restart its development. The team behind the project, which had been silent for a long time, “decided some time ago to reset the direction of the project,” according to Merrill.

The reasons for this decision are also clear: Riot Games wants to deliver an experience that is unique to its fans and at the top of their expectations. “We don’t believe you all want an MMO that you’ve played before with a Runeterra coat of paint; to truly do justice to the potential of Runeterra and to meet the incredibly high expectations of players around the world, we need to do something that truly feels like a significant evolution of the genre,” said Merrill. “This is a huge challenge, but one that our team of deeply passionate MMO players and game development veterans is incredibly motivated to pursue.”

This reboot of the game’s development will also bring changes to the staff. With Vijay Thakkar, former project lead, moving into the position of technical director. His position will now be filled by Fabrice Condominas, a veteran of Bioware and Riot, who will become the new executive producer.

Riot’s MMO without a release date

While this game did not have a scheduled release date, its new status creates a real unknown as to when this title will reach the hands of gamers.
