Marathon will soon compete with Arc Raiders: here’s its release window, price, and first season
Bungie’s game returns after its indefinite delay and is now targeting its release month.
Arc Raiders has stirred up the hornet’s nest of the hugely popular extraction shooter genre. Bungie was eagerly awaited before Embark Studios’ game, but they decided at the last minute to delay it indefinitely to focus on improving its launch day experience. That evolution now has a release date, price, and all the details you need to spice up 2026.
Marathon will arrive in March 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (date to be determined). It will be priced at $39.99. Bungie emphasizes that the purchase will grant full access to the game and all updates and improvements added throughout the seasons “as the year progresses.”
This is how Marathon has improved in recent months
The announcement was made in the usual manner for the team, with an extensive video from their offices providing further details. At launch, it will feature four maps, called zones, including Cryo Archive, an endgame challenge linked to the first season. Each season will have a battle pass with no expiration date.
Among the new features included since its alpha version are proximity chat (a key feature given the success of Arc Raiders), solo match search queues, and the arrival of Rook, a character who acts as a “free looter.” Basically, you are given a predetermined weapon and basic equipment, with fewer loot slots, so you can play without the pressure of losing your precious gear.
The game loop is simple. Before starting the games, we will have several factions that offer us contracts in the form of missions. By completing them, we gain advantages with them, each related to an element to improve. You enter the game looking for better resources to extract while trying to complete the objectives set for you. You do this while dealing with enemy forces and other players thanks to the PvEvP mix.
