Marvel halts production on Thunderbolts indefinitely

The Marvel anti-hero team-up movie, Thunderbolts, is the latest project to be affected by the writers’ strike in Hollywood.

Update:
Thunderbolts Marvel Studios

The writers’ strike continues to claim victims, and after Blade, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has another film facing problems: Thunderbolts. The Marvel antihero movie has halted its production indefinitely, mainly until an agreement is reached and this strike is ended.

We previously spoke about Blade, but other productions such as the Wonder Man series and Daredevil: Born Again have been affected by the strike organized by the WGA writers who are demanding better working conditions. It must be remembered that the main reasons for this strike are payment conditions that are far from being satisfactory -in quantity and form, since they demand a fixed salary and not per project-, in addition to the regulation of the use of AI in the film industry.

Who are the Thunderbolts?

To get an idea, let’s say that the Thunderbolts are the equivalent of the Suicide Squad in the Marvel Universe. Originally made up of members like Baron Zemo and Moonstone, in the movie we will see other characters like Yelena (Florence Pugh), whose first appearance was in the Black Widow solo film,as well as the Winter Soldier himself, Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan).

The release of Thunderbolts was expected for the month of July 2024, but after this news, we will have to wait for more details. It is part of Phase 5 of the MCU in which other productions such as Loki, Ironheart, Echo or Secret Invasion, which is about to premiere, are framed. Movies like The Marvels, Captain America: New World Order or the already released Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania or Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will also form part of this new phase.

Meanwhile, Phase 6 belongs to series and films such as Deadpool 3, Avengers: Secret Wars, or Fantastic 4, which after two failed projects has already announced actors for this new adventure.
