Marvel Studios has fired the writers and directors of Daredevil: Born Again
‘Daredevil: Born Again’ has been left without writers or directors, resulting in a new delay for the Disney+ production starring Charlie Cox.
First it was COVID, and then the writers’ and actors’ strike. Between one thing and the other, Marvel is having a lot of problems with several of their productions for the near future such as ‘Daredevil: Born Again’. Marvel executives have not been convinced by what has been shot so far and made a drastic decision: firing the scriptwriters and directors of most of the episodes. The future of the new Disney+ series starring Charlie Cox hangs on a wire.
The first episodes of ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ did not convince Marvel
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel has gotten rid of all the directors and writers of ‘Daredevil: Born Again’, the Disney+ Daredevil series starring Charlie Cox, whom we could already see playing this same superhero in ‘She-Hulk: Attorney at Law’.
When production was paused in mid-June due to the writers’ and actors’ strikes (which also affected other productions such as the ‘Blade’ reboot), not even half of the 18 episodes that the series was going to have had been filmed. Marvel executives, including Kevin Feige, reviewed what had been recorded until then and they were blunt in their decision: it did not work. So without much hesitation, at the end of September they fired the main scriptwriters Chris Ord y Matt Corman, alongside the directors of the rest of the episodes. The studio is currently looking for their replacements.
One of the main reasons for this friction between series workers and executives could be the format used. According to statements from current and former workers of the Marvel TV series, “TV is a writer-driven medium”, while “Marvel is a Marvel-driven medium”. “The whole ‘fix it in post’ attitude makes it feel like a director doesn’t matter sometimes”, commented another worker about one of the platform’s shows.
