Marvel Studios

Marvel’s Secret Invasion opening credits were made entirely by AI and the director stands by it

Marvel Studios used AI to generate the animation in the opening credits of Marvel’s Secret Invasion, their latest series on Disney+, and it’s not been well received.

Invasión Secreta Marvel Studios Disney+

Secret Invasion, the newest Marvel Studios series for Disney+, was released this week surrounded by controversy; so much so, that fans began to wonder how such a strange and disturbing intro scene was made, with the use of the always controversial artificial intelligence as part of the equation. Finally, it was confirmed that Marvel Studios had used a AI tool to generate these images, which has aroused a wave of criticism online. Now director Ali Salim, has justified the use of AI, something that he says is strongly related to the spirit of the series itself.

The metamorphic world of the Skrulls

Secret Invasion, starring Samuel L. Jackson once again as Nick Fury , presents us with the climax of the conflict between humans and Skrulls featured in Captain Marvel, with a rogue faction of said shapeshifting alien race infiltrating high levels of governments on Earth with the goal of destabilizing the world order and taking over the planet.

According to Ali Salim, director of the series, the use of artificial intelligence to create the opening credits animation of the series makes all the sense in the world: “When we reached out to the AI vendors, that was part of it — it just came right out of the shape-shifting, Skrull world identity, you know? Who did this? Who is this?” explained the director of the series.

Method Studios -who have worked for Marvel in the past for series like Loki and Ms. Marvel-, designed a series of AI-based tools to generate all these sequences, described by the director himself as “explorative and inevitable, and exciting, and different”, he concluded.

Secret Invasion has already released its first episode on Disney+.
