Update:

It sounds like science fiction, but it’s no longer just a fantasy. China has taken a key step toward the future of transportation by starting production of the first flying cars. Manufacturer XPeng, known for its electric vehicles, has begun building its first models at a plant in the south of the country, considered the world’s first smart factory specializing in electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft.

This model, dubbed the “Land Aircraft Carrier,” combines the functions of a conventional car with those of a detachable electric aircraft. And, logically, it represents a major innovation in terms of traffic, as it will allow drivers to travel on the road and, when necessary, transform into an aircraft capable of taking off and traveling distances through the air. In addition, XPeng claims its cars will feature an automatic flight mode that can plot routes and take off or land at the touch of a button.

According to the state news agency Xinhua, the factory has a planned production capacity of 10,000 aerial modules per year, although initially, it will start with the first 5,000. Once the plant is operating at full capacity, XPeng estimates that it will be able to assemble a new model every 30 minutes, making it one of the most advanced facilities in the world in this emerging sector.

When there is a traffic jam, you can take to the skies to continue on your way

The flying car is approximately 5.5 meters long and can be driven on public roads with a regular driver’s license. Of course, it can also be parked in conventional parking spaces. The company emphasizes that its design seeks to seamlessly integrate urban and aerial mobility without the need for special infrastructure to operate on the ground, so its use will not be as complex as it may seem.

Since its official launch, XPeng has received thousands of pre-orders for the Land Aircraft Carrier, demonstrating the high level of interest in this futuristic mode of transport. This flying car aims to become an ideal alternative for times when there are traffic jams and when you want to make a short interurban trip. And all thanks to its unprecedented mobility, there is nothing else like it in the world.
