‘Masters of the Universe’ heads to Prime Video sooner than expected

After a modest box office performance, Travis Knight’s live-action He-Man movie is making an early streaming debut.

Masters del Universo Skeletor

Although it was released just over a month ago, the movie ‘Masters of the Universe’ already has a streaming release date—and it will be available sooner than we expected.

If for some reason you weren’t able to go to the movies to see the new film that brings He-Man back to live-action, we have good news. Prime Video has announced that the film, directed by Travis Knight, will be available on the streaming service next Wednesday, July 22.

The film did not become the box office hit that was expected, barely reaching $113 million according to Box Office Mojo—well below the $200 million it cost to make. That said, the film did win over critics, scoring a 67% on Rotten Tomatoes and an 86% with audiences on Popcornmeter, which shows that there was indeed something about the film that made it work.

What is ‘Masters of the Universe’ about?

“The film will follow 10-year-old Prince Adam who crashed to Earth in a spaceship and was separated from his magical Power Sword—the only link to his home on Eternia,” says the official synopsis. “After tracking it down almost two decades later, Prince Adam is whisked back across space to defend his home planet against the evil forces of Skeletor. But to defeat such a powerful villain, Prince Adam will first need to uncover the mysteries of his past and become He-Man: the most powerful man in the Universe!”
