Max password sharing is on its way out, as Warner details their plans to end the practice

Warner Discovery has made it clear that they don’t want users sharing their Max passwords, and they plan to set limits on it soon.

Max joins the line of other platforms to hunt down those who share their account. During the closing of the last fiscal quarter, the president of Warner Bros Discovery (who has also talked about his video game division) assured that the company already has a solid plan to limit access to accounts between people who are not in the same family unit.

Gunnar Wiedenfels, head of finance at the company, further detailed the plan that they will put into practice before the end of the year. The executive explained that they will begin with “a very gentle communication” that will reach users during the final stretch of 2024. Little by little they will toughen the message until they block access between houses during 2025 and part of 2026. They argue that restricting account sharing will allow benefits to receive a significant boost.

Max follows in Netflix’s footsteps

It was Netflix who started this path of restrictions when using your account with others. The platform drew up an alternative plan that diverted the use of the profile to another secondary one for an extra price in the base fee. It was as follows: for a second household to be able to use the account, you had to add $5.99 to the base price per month of the plan you selected ($12.99 for the standard and $17.99 for the premium).

Disney+, on the other hand, decided to cut corners and does not allow sharing in any way. Quite the opposite of the path that Amazon decided to take: Prime Video is free to be shared in any of its currently available plans.
