Meowscarada is the terror of Pokémon ex in the new Pokémon TCG Pocket Meta
We examine how Meowscarada, one of the Pokémon introduced with Shining Revelry, the latest Pokémon TCG Pocket miniset, has redefined the new meta.

Shining Revelry is the latest miniset from Pokémon TCG Pocket, and it landed last Thursday, March 27th. The arrival of its new cards has completely changed the metagame, and among the new Pokémon available, one of them shines with its own light. It is Meowscarada, the final evolutionary stage of Sprigatito, the original Grass-type Pokémon in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet. Meowscarada is one of the best cards in the expansion for a reason: it deals extra damage to rival Pokémon ex, making it an option that is both meta and anti-meta.
How to get the Meowscarada card in Pokémon TCG Pocket and what is the strategy?
Meowscarada is a card that can be randomly obtained by opening booster packs from the Shining Revelry Miniset. It comes in two versions: standard and art rare. If we have no luck opening booster packs, we can buy each Standard copy for 150 Pack Points, and each Art Rare copy for 400 Pack Points. Remember that each opened envelope gives us 5 Pack Points of the corresponding expansion.

However, since Meowscarada is a Phase 2 Pokémon, we cannot play it directly; instead, we must “build” its entire lineage. To do this, we also need cards from Sprigatito (Basic) and Floragato (Phase 1). These two Pokémon cards are also available in the Shining Revelry packs, and can be purchased directly for 35 Pack Points and 70 Pack Points, respectively.

Meowscarada’s strategy is simple, but brutally effective. Roughly speaking, we need to build first Meowscarada’s evolutionary line as a whole. This Pokémon has only one move: Fighting Claws, which deals 60 damage. While that may seem like a ridiculous amount of damage for a Phase 2 Pokémon, consider its effect: It deals an additional 70 points of damage if the opponent’s Active Pokémon is a Pokémon ex, for a total of 130 points of damage. As if that weren’t enough, Meowscarada’s 140 Health gives it a decent amount of Health, similar to some Pokémon ex, but without being a Pokémon ex. This allows it to stay in the Active Spot longer.
The most robust Pokémon in the game in terms of health are the Pokémon ex, and within that category, there is not a single Pokémon that has more than 260 Health Points. That means: Meowscarada can defeat any Pokémon ex with two attacks, which makes its anti-meta use against the opponent’s Pokémon Ex very obvious. In addition, the 130 points of damage it deals also means that popular but weak Pokémon ex such as Celebi ex and Mew ex can be weakened by a single attack, further cementing its status as a “duelist” for that class of Pokémon.
