Metacritic’s 20 worst-rated video games — and no, MindsEye or Superman 64 didn’t make the cut
Popular flops like MindsEye, E.T., and Superman 64 don’t even come close to the lowest-rated games in history.

When we talk about the worst video games ever made, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Superman 64, or the more recent MindsEye (thanks to its disastrous launch that resembled Cyberpunk 2077’s) usually top players’ minds. These games are infamous, yes—but not according to the critic scores.
Metacritic, the industry’s go-to review aggregator, tracks critic ratings for thousands of games. And in its data, none of those iconic trainwrecks come close to the actual bottom of the barrel. That’s because either they predate the platform’s existence, didn’t receive enough reviews to qualify, or—surprisingly—scored higher than games you’ve probably never heard of.

A true bottom-tier masterpiece
At the very bottom? Family Party: 30 Great Games Obstacle Arcade for Wii—a chaotic collection of minigames so broken it earned a staggering 11/100 from critics. With clunky controls, painfully repetitive gameplay, and visuals that look ripped from a last-gen prototype, it’s widely regarded as the worst-reviewed game of all time.
